01Do you take phone calls?

No. Genuinely. We're a small team and email is faster for everyone. We answer every email within one business day, usually within four hours. Email info@ibctankscleveland.com.

02Can I use a used IBC tote for drinking water?

Only a Grade A (food grade) tote, freshly washed, and only if your local code allows reuse of HDPE for potable water (most do; verify). For long-term potable storage we recommend a dedicated potable-rated tote and a separate inlet for first-flush diversion.

03How much does a used IBC tote cost?

$45 to $135 depending on size and grade. See current inventory pricing. Volume discounts start at 8 units.

04How much does a new IBC tote cost?

Generally $180–$260, plus freight. We stock new only when an order requires it; lead time is 7–14 business days.

05Will you pick up my used totes?

Yes. Free pickup over 12 units within ~150 miles. Below that, we deduct pickup cost from the per-tote price. Details on Sell Your IBCs.

06Do you ship outside Michigan?

Yes — Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, western PA and NY are routine. Further than that we partner with LTL carriers and quote pass-through. Long-haul empties (over ~500 miles) start to erase the sustainability benefit and we'll flag that.

07What's the difference between 275 and 330 gallon?

Footprint is the same; 330 is taller (53" vs. 46"). The 330 is heavier when full (3,300 lbs of corn syrup vs. 2,700 lbs). Most applications can go either way — pick by dock height and density. See the size guide.

08Can I see the tote before I buy?

Yes. The yard is at 902 Scribner Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Open Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–4 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m. (May–Oct). Email ahead so we can stage what you're considering.

09Do you sell stainless?

Yes. Inventory varies — figure 10–20 units across sizes. We carry 304L and 316L. See stainless steel IBCs.

10How long do IBC totes last?

The cage outlasts the bottle. Bottles typically do 9–14 deployments with proper care; cages do 25+. We re-pair surviving cages with refurbished bottles routinely.

11What can I store in an IBC tote?

Most aqueous chemistries, foods, dilute acids and bases, alcohol, glycol, fertilizer, soaps, mineral oils. Not: aromatic or chlorinated solvents, fuels, strong oxidizers, anything above 140°F sustained. Full table on the material guide.

12What's UN/DOT certification?

The marking that authorizes a container for shipping regulated chemistries. The original cage often has UN/DOT stamps; if they're worn off and you need them, we re-apply with paperwork — $32/tote.

13Do you do food grade?

Yes. Grade A means triple-rinsed and steam-washed, with food-only previous contents. ~80 units in stock at any time.

14Can I wash my own totes at your yard?

Yes. Drop off 20+ units, pick up the following week. Pricing: $4 (cold rinse) to $22 (food-grade) per unit. See reconditioning.

15How do I know what the tote previously held?

Every tote in our yard has a tag with previous contents (when known), wash type, valve test, and grade. We don't buy from sellers who can't tell us what was in the tote.

16Can I use a tote for rainwater harvesting?

Yes — one of the best uses. Even Grade C works since you're not consuming the water. We sell pre-built rain catchment systems too.

17Can I cut a tote in half for a planter?

Yes. We can do the cut for you ($95 for a standard raised bed) or sell you an uncut Grade C and you cut it yourself. Use a reciprocating saw with a fine-tooth wood/plastic blade.

18What pallet type should I get?

Wood is default and cheapest. Plastic is required for most food auditors. Steel is for heavy cycling. See pallet section of the size guide.

19Can I stack them?

Empty composite IBCs stack 3 high indoors, 2 high outdoors. Loaded stack 2 high maximum. Never stack a 330 on a 275 (top-heavy). Stainless can stack 2 high empty or loaded.

20Do you have a phone number listed somewhere?

No. We genuinely don't have a phone. Email gets answered faster than a callback would.

21Do you accept returns?

If damaged in transit, yes — replacement or refund. If functionally fine but unsuitable, 15% restocking within 14 days; you cover return freight.

22Can I see the wash bay?

Yes. Email ahead for a tour. We're happy to show you the process.

23Do you offer net terms?

After three orders we'll discuss net 15 or net 30 for established customers.

24What about the deposit-return pilot?

Launching in 2026 for breweries and cidermakers within ~120 miles. Drop a tote off, get a credit slip, pick up a freshly washed one. Email if you want in early.

The 'why no phone' question

We get this every week. The honest answer: phone calls are sequential. One conversation blocks the queue. Email is parallel. Two people emailing simultaneously both get useful answers within four hours. We tracked customer satisfaction across both modes for six months in 2024 and the email-only operation came out ahead on both speed-to-resolution and complaint rate. We stuck with what worked.

The 'food grade' nuance

'Food grade' is operational, not regulatory. There is no FDA definition of a 'food-grade IBC'. The phrase is defined by the receiver's audit checklist — typically SQF, BRC, or FSSC 22000. We supply documentation that passes those checklists, and we keep tote-level traceability so your auditor has the paper trail they need.
