What's typically available

New 275 and 330 gallon caged composites are made by several manufacturers, in virgin HDPE and, from some makers, recycled-content variants. Pallet options include wood, plastic and steel. A 2" ball valve is standard, with butterfly or camlock as common options. Ask the supplier for the manufacturer's UN/DOT marking details.

A note on sustainability

A recycled-content tote uses less virgin plastic than a fully virgin one, but reusing a reconditioned tote avoids manufacturing a new container altogether. If your application allows reconditioned, it's worth asking for a quote on both.

Lead times

New totes are often made or shipped to order rather than held in volume, so expect a longer lead time than for used stock. Direct shipment from the manufacturer may be an option for full-truckload orders, and color-spec or recycled-content runs can take several weeks during seasonal peaks. Your quote should include a timeline.

When you actually need new

The common cases for new:

DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) handling. ISO 22241 purity requirements are strict, and contamination can damage SCR systems. New or dedicated containers are the norm.

Pharmaceutical or aseptic-fill staging. Validated cleaning processes require known-history surfaces, and used bottles often don't pass receiver audits.

Some food applications with strict packaging-history requirements. Some certifiers and buyers require virgin HDPE for direct-contact storage.

UN/DOT-marked transport of regulated chemistries where the receiver's compliance team requires new containers.

If you're not in one of those categories, a used tote with known, compatible previous contents is usually the better value.

What 'new' usually includes

A virgin HDPE bottle, new galvanized cage and new pallet, with new gaskets and the manufacturer's markings. If you need a specific UN rating, gasket material or pallet type, include it in your request.

Lead times depend on the supplier and manufacturer and can tighten in busy seasons. For larger orders, confirm lead time with the supplier before you commit.
